Women |
Within the family organization in the Upper Cervo Valley, the woman has always had an outstanding role. The father’s or husband’s migration obliged her to take on the double role of lone mother and worker bound to be financially independent in order to avoid using the men’s income which was to be kept aside for extraordinary expenses such as renovating the home or purchasing a piece of land. Furthermore she had to take responsibilities for those left behind and make strategic decisions concerning family life and their relationship with the other members of the community.
Works |
In the past the “Valit”, qualified stone-cutters and stone-masons emigrated and took their skills to distant lands. On the one hand their emigration was costly from a social point of view, on the other hand, it contained the demand for food in the Valley and it brought into the Valley their income from abroad. Thanks to them we can find works in sienite from Upper Valley Cervo all over the world.
Pastures |
A selection of the numerous photographs of the Upper Valley Cervo pastures taken by Gianni Valz Blin at the beginning of the 1960s. These photographs are treasured memories as many of these meadows are now in very bad condition due to gradual abandoning. The entire series can be seen in the House Museum.
